In 2013, the Bettendorf Kiwanis Club awarded a grant to Edison Academy, which allowed their students to write and publish books. The Edison Academy then took the books and read them to young students at Riverdale Heights Elementary school.
Click here for the story in the Bettendorf News.
Some of the Edison Academy students discussed their new literary piece, with their teacher Shawn Rice, and gave us an update on the project in March. What great people! We particularly liked the fact that while the students apparently initially thought they couldn’t write a book, they ended loving their books and wanting to do more writing. What an inspiration!

Shopping for Books at the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library Book Fair, October 2 and 3
For the past couple of years, we’ve supplied reading materials for the children who use the services offered by the WIC offices. We can supply them with a much larger number of items if we buy used, instead of new. We need Kiwanians who are willing to weed through the huge amount of books at the Book Fair to find new and nearly new for children birth to 5.
