Our annual roses fundraiser kicks off today! Here is your chance to support our service projects and scholarship funds. Please consider buying one dozen roses from your local Kiwanis club for only $16. The deadline for orders is April 13th, 2012. The distribution date of these roses is Administrative Professionals’ Day on Wednesday, April 25th. More details are here.

The Bettendorf Kiwanis and Rotary clubs will co-host the Bettendorf Mayor’s State of the City address on Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012. The luncheon will be held at the Waterfront Convention Center (map) in downtown Bettendorf. The luncheon will cost $10 per person and members in attendance are responsible for this meal cost.

The board of directors of our club is currently exploring fun and exciting fundraisers to bring to the membership. Please add your ideas to the mix by contacting an officer of the club today. Also, be sure to attend the upcoming business meetings as we vote on which fundraisers to pursue in 2012.

On September 20th, 2011, club member and webmaster Chad Raeside presented a program about unclaimed property. He talked about what unclaimed property is and how to search for it. He also demonstrated simple search techniques to determine how many club members are listed in the State of Iowa’s fund (Great Iowa Treasure Hunt). Chad is an unpaid volunteer for a new non-profit organization called Discovered Money. The organization has recently completed its website updates and is excited to showcase the new features including: Unclaimed Property street maps, Ten Most Wanted lists and more! Peanut Days for our club will be Friday, September 16th and Saturday, September 17th. If you have not yet signed up for a slot, please contact either Maria or Jim. This is a great fundraiser in which we put our best face on and greet the general public with a smile.

I-I District Governor-Elect Mel Peterson Passes Away
7/17/2011 – District: Illinois-E. Iowa – Submitted by: District Office
I-I District Governor-Elect Mel Peterson has passed away following a series of heart attacks suffered while traveling in Europe. Following his attendance at the Kiwanis International Convention in Geneva, Switzerland, Mel and wife Betty traveled by rail to Berlin, Germany to visit family members there. While in Berlin, Mel was admitted to the hospital where he was treated for heart related issues. Mel passed away on Saturday, July 16th with Betty at his side.
Our prayers are with Betty and the family during this time.
